Portfolio evaluation

Hello!
Ok, so this will be my last post in the portfolio this year... but I'll continue it next year, with loads of new writings, speakings, oral presentations... and maybe something more! I don't know what is waiting for me next year yet ;-)
So what can I say about this portfolio? Well, of course it was something new this year. Everything we did (the blogger, the presentations, and even the whole English classes) were quite different than in other years. Of course we have all complained a lot, because (and this is true) it was a lot of work. But I cannot say that I haven't enjoyed it, because, in fact, I have.
Maybe it was quite difficult at the beginning, 'cause we had enough stress with exams and things like that, and we didn't really understand the sense of a Portfolio, we didn't really understand why we had to show teachers the work they had already seen.
Also creating this e-portfolio was quite a new experience. It was fristly a bit strange idea because it was the first time we had to show our work to the world. But after a time I realized that doing and e-portfolio, instead of the typical dossier or CD, has also got many advantages, because it's, on the one hand, faster to do and, on the other hand, you won't loose your work because everything is in the internet.
I think that, all in all, I have improved a lot this year, maybe more than in other years, and not only because of the new things we did in class, but because of the blogger and portfolio as well.
The portfolio actually is a very nice way to see how much you have improved from the first writing, speaking, or oral presentation until the last one.
So, to sum up, it was a very nice year, with many innovations which were quite strange at the beggining but that, at the same time, made me and most of 1st Batxillerat students improve a lot.
So let me use this short entry to thank the teachers, Lourdes (who somehow always finds a sollution for every problem you have), Sònia (our "Miss youtube") and Núria for organising this whole project so well and for helping us so much. I think it would have been VERY difficult without their help.
See you next year!

My Third Oral Presentation

Here is my third and last presentation this year. I did it again with Claudia G. This time, we had to talk about a social topic, and we decided to talk about Famine and Poverty, which is a very serious problem of our society.

My Second Oral Presentation

This time we had to talk about an English speaking country. I did the presentation with Claudia and we talked about autralian culture. I enjoyed it a lot and, as you can see, I was less nervous.
Hope you enjoy it, I've really felt in love with this country thanks to the presentation!

My First Oral Presentation

This is the first presentation I did this year, and it's actually the first one of all my life. I talked about myself and my hobbies and, well, as you can see I was very nervous. Maybe because it was nearly the first time I had to talk this way in front of people.
Anyway, this helped me to improve!

Dear Sir or Madame,

I read your magazine last month and I am writing in reply to Brendan Clark's letter about school uniforms. It was an interesting subject, but I disagree with some of his opinions.
On the one hand, I agree that most of uniforms are not stylish and that they are also quite practical, but on the other hand I do not think that it is a good idea if everyone wears the same thing at school. It is true that it would be easier to choose your clothes every morning and that people would not waste so much money on them; but I believe that uniforms belong to the past. From my point of view, everyone is free to wear those clothes he likes the most or which he considers more practical and stylish.
What's more, whatever you wear reflects a little your personality and if all students wore uniforms they would look very similar to each other.
In my experience, not many people would like to wear the same thing at school. It would be a disaster if it became an obligation in every highschool.
I would be interested to read about other readers opinions.

Yours faithfully,

Jennifer Olbrich

Writing 2nd term I: Frankenstein.

Here is another writing I did together with Eli. After reading the book of Frankenstein and watching the film, we compared them to each other.
I have to say that it's not very good because we had to do it very quickly in class. Hope you like it, though.

Writing 1st term: Sleepy Hollow II - Lady Van Tassel's Revenge

I did this writing together with Eli after watching the film of Sleepy Hollow. It is like a second part of this story and it is, of course, completely invented by us.
I hope you like it, it was the first writing I did this year, after the email.

SLEEPY HOLLOW II - LADY VAN TASSEL'S REVENGE

Once upon a time, in a small and unknown village called Sleepy Hollow, strange and terrible things took place. Many people were murdred by a headless horseman who was decapitated many years ago with his own sword. Lady Van Tassel, the mayor's wife, was the one who had taken his head from his grave and was able to control him.
Later, the horseman discovered who controlled him and who posessed his head. Then, he got his head back from the mayor's wife and went back to hell with her.
The citizens lived in peace for many years, but what they didn't know was that ten years later the murders would start again.
So, after a time, an investigator came to the village to investigate the new problems. The investigator was no one else than the young Masbath, the boy whose father had been decapitated by the horseman ten years before. He had helped Inchabod Crane, the old investigator, with the cases in Sleepy Hollow. Crane taught him a lot about his job and helped him to become a good investigator.
Masbath went to Sleepy Hollow and stayed there for one year. After loads of investigations the young man discovered that Lady Van Tassel came back from hell every night and killed the children of the village because she wanted to take revenge.
She was only a child when she saw some man decapitating the horseman in front of her, and she lived with this trauma all her life. That's why she wanted to kill every child, because she had lost her childhood and she couldn't accept that others could have a better life than her.
Sleepy Hollow's murders ended when a mysterious witch came from the mountains and cast a spell to Lady Van Tassel. From then on, the mayor's wife was locked in hell and couldn't come out anymore.
The village didn't have any more problems, and everyone lived peacefully and happily forever more.

THE END

Welcome!

free image hosting hosted images

Hi everyone and welcome to my portfolio!

Well, this will be the place were I'll put all the wortk I've done during this first year of Batxillerat.
What could I say about this new type of English classes we had this year? Although it was very stressing most of the time, I've really enjoyed it. I think, even if we've spend nearly the whole year complaining about too much work, we've all learnt a lot.
"This year we're gonna start the PROJECT FOR INNOVATION!"- they told us the first day, and no one of us did really know what was meant. We didn't know about three oral presentations and speakings which were waiting for us, about all the stress, work... but we didn't either know about all the things we would learn.
Ok, so this was a little introduction for this portfolio, I hope you enjoy reading my writings, watching my oral presentations, and listening to my speakings!

Bye bye!
